So I wanted to go to the Shaggy Bevo website because I wanted to enjoy the meltdown there after Texas lost yesterday. If you hadn't heard of it, it was a website/message board for UT sports. You might call it like Cyclone Fanatic, only way more members, and most members had the mental equivalent of neurotic high school sophomores. Some really, really funny stuff that would be in poor taste, epic rants, and just general smart ass comments.
So I typed it in yesterday, and nothing came up. So I went to Google it, and found out that the site is now ShaggyTexas.com. And after more digging, the UT athletics department claimed trademark on the word "Bevo", and because the site was not affiliated with the University, they were told to change it.
The site owner thought he could have fought it and won, on the basis that "ShaggyBevo".com was generic enough, but he said it might have cost him 100K to defend it. So he changed the sitename to ShaggyTexas.
Can you imagine ISU going after a website for "TwistyClone" or "TwistyCy" or something like that? No wonder the AD got run. I imagine part of the deal is the mods and users of the website beat on the UT athletics department unmercilessly. So probably some tyrants in the athletic department just decided to jerk the site's chain.
So anyway, just thought it interesting.
