Seems like a lot of debt....

I read last night that the U of I athletic department currently has $256 million in debt after losing $42 million in the 2020-2021 Covid year. Sounds like they borrowed $50 million from the university's cash reserves.

$256 mil is getting up there, isn't it? What kind of athletic debt does ISU carry?

What always gets me is that the U of I has a MUCH larger annual operating budget than we do, but never any significant Big 10 championships over the past 40 years to show for spending that much extra money (other than some wrestling, but that's also been lean lately).

Maybe spending $30 million extra annually than we do comes back to them in general university donations to help justify it?
