Iowa State recently jumped into the fray for a four-star quarterback that’s ranked as one of the top prospects at his position nationally, and the Class of 2018 recruit is already talking about taking an unofficial visit.
Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison standout signal-caller Justin Fields picked up an offer from the Cyclones earlier this month and looks forward to learning more about the Big 12 program.
“They direct-messaged me on Twitter, I called them up and talked to the Coach (Jim) Hofher, the quarterbacks coach the other day,” said Fields. “I was really excited to get the offer. I’m going to try to get up there soon to a game and check them out.”
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound junior said ISU believes he would be a good fit for the passing game Hofher helps coordinate.
“He said they liked my film a lot and that I’d be a good fit for the offense,” Fields said. “They’re looking for a guy like me and like the way I play on the field. They also like the way I can run the ball, as well as my arm strength and accuracy.”
Fields said he has yet to do a lot of research about the Cyclone program.
“I’m just trying to focus on my high school team, but will probably do a little research over the weekend,” he said.
In addition to giving him four stars, Rivals.com has Fields ranked as the ninth-overall Dual Threat Quarterback in the Class 2018 and has him in its top 250.
He already has Power-5 offers from the likes of Arizona, Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech, Missouri, North Carolina, NC State, Northwestern, Penn State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
“I’m enjoying the recruiting process,” Fields said. “There are a lot of great opportunities out there.”
