Failure to retain Fred would/could probably go down as one of the worst mistakes in the last 40+ years of ISU athletics. We have gained so much and there is so much to be lost. Respect for and notoriety of our basketball program is at an all time high. There are so many tangibles (and intangibles) I am sure we have gained that I think would be difficult to maintain under a new regime.
You could possibly liken the impact of the program to, possibly, allowing to let Cael Sanderson in wrestling and Earl Bruce in football leave the university. So much was lost. Wrestling is inching back to respectability and I don't feel we have ever gotten back to where we were in football (overall on-field results) some 38 years ago.
