HAGEN, Germany - Former Iowa State men's basketball player Nick Weiler-Babb has been named to Team Germany for the Paris Olympics. Weiler-Babb is a member of the 12-person team that will compete in the Paris Olympics, which will take place July 27-Aug. 10.
Weiler-Babb is the fourth former Iowa State men's basketball player to qualify for the Paris Olympics. Tyrese Haliburton is a member of the USA Men's National Team, George Conditt IV is a member of the Puerto Rico National Team and Melvin Ejim will be playing for Team Canada. Haliburton, Conditt IV and Weiler-Babb played together at Iowa State in 2018-19, while Ejim was at Iowa State from 2010-14.
As part of Group B, the German men will face Japan on July 27, Brazil on July 30 and France on Aug. 2 in the first round of the Olympic tournament. The 5-on-5 Olympic basketball group phase will take place in Lille, France, before the tournament moves to Paris for knockout and medal rounds.
Weiler-Babb has played in Germany since 2019 with Riesen Ludwigsburg and Bayern Munich. He won the 2023 BBL-Pokal with Bayern and was named the tournament's MVP. Last week, he signed a two-year extension to remain with Bayern Munich. He played for the German National Team at EuroBasket 2022, helping the team to a third-place finish.
