QB play has changed. The "spread" in whatever iteration it takes, has put a premium on accuracy in QB passing. Over the last 16 years, QB's are basically 3 types. 1 is the big thrower who is tall, can see the field and throws the ball with 65% or better accuracy. We have not had one of those. 2 is dual threat that is a pre-eminent running threat and can throw usually the longer pass fairly accurately. We have not had that, although Lanning is close. Seneca could have been, but he really didn't want to run. Sage was close to number 1, but was not that accurate. In fairness, the type of QB play nationally has really evolved since Sage and Seneca and, frankly, we have not kept up with that change.

The third is a smaller, more mobile QB who is a very accurate short passer and stretches defenses horizontally with his legs, which opens up crossing patterns at various depths. I don't think we have really seen one of those. Again, Seneca may have been close or Barnett, but his accuracy was not at the level needed.

I don't sense that we have ever committed to an offense, with changing coaches and, particularly, musical chairs at Offensive Coordinator. Lack of continuity has been a HUGE issue. We absolutely have to establish an identity.
