A three-star quarterback with multiple offers from Power-5 schools is planning on taking an unofficial visit to Iowa State in the near future.

Standout junior Re-Al Mitchell, who quarterbacked his Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco team to CIF Southern Section Division 1 and CIF State Open Division championships this past season, said he received an offer from the Cyclones earlier this month.

“About three weeks ago, Coach (Lou) Ayeni direct-messaged me on Twitter asking for my number and my head coach’s number,” said Mitchell. “After that, Coach Hofher hit me up about a week later to see how things were going. We talked for some time on Twitter and he eventually wanted to FaceTime me.

“He said I’m a really good fit for their system and a good player for their school academic-wise, so they offered me a scholarship. I was fortunate enough to get some other offers later that day, but the Iowa State one was a little more special than the others.”

The 6-foot-0, 181-pound Mitchell has been given a 5.6 Rivals rating and is the 37th-ranked player in the state of California for 2018. He said ISU coaches have made it clear he’s a big target for them.

“They made it clear that they’re all-in for recruiting dual-threat quarterbacks, especially in this class,” Mitchell said. “My high school runs a very similar offense to theirs…almost exact. They like how fast my decision making is and how accurate I am throwing the ball. Coach Hofher also liked my elite speed and strong arm. Those tangibles are what really attracted them.”

An unofficial visit is a good possibility over the next month, says Mitchell.

“They talk to me every day and are persistent about getting me to campus,” he said. “I plan on visiting within the next couple weeks, and if I could hit a spring practice that would be cool. Without a doubt, I think I’m a priority for them. Iowa State is probably the strongest vibe I’ve gotten from a school.”

In addition to I-State, Mitchell has P5 offers from Arizona, Northwestern, Rutgers, South Carolina and Utah. The dual-threat quarterback appears set to make a decision in the spring.

“I’m thinking about coming out with a top five pretty soon,” he said. “The process is going pretty well right now and definitely not slow. Along with Iowa State, a couple of other top schools would be South Carolina, Rutgers, Northwestern, Arizona and Hawaii. I want to commit within the next month and a half, so I’ll be taking a lot of visits in the coming weeks. Iowa State is probably my one or two right now.”
