Iowa State Class of 2017 quarterback commit Devon Moore got his first look at a Matt Campbell-led preseason practice over the weekend and was encouraged with what he saw.

The Waterloo West rising senior, who committed to the Cyclones shortly after Campbell arrived in town last November, said he was particularly impressed with how players at his future position worked.

"It was a great learning experience for me," said the three-star Moore. "We started off by me going into a meeting with the quarterbacks and they went over what their plans are for practice. It was kind of like a pre-practice. It was pretty cool. I could actually visualize it before they went out and did it.

"Then we went out to practice and they ran a nice, clean, smooth practice. The quarterbacks warmed up first before anyone else got out there. They were the first ones out there and it shows a lot of hard work out of the quarterback position. They got going with practice and it was a lot different than high school. They jumped into everything and there was no break. They got a lot of work done."

As far as the overall tone to the Cyclones' practice, Moore was encouraged.

"I feel like they really chase perfection," he said. "If guys mess up, they're OK with that but they make sure they corrected it and got everything on the right path. They make sure they're on the right path to win."

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Moore said he noticed a lot of similarities between what the Cyclones will run offensively this season and the system employed at Waterloo West.

"Most of the concepts are basically the same that I have in my offense here," Moore said. "The things that will be different are the language and verbiage. They have different names for their plays, so it's going to be a lot different learning all of that."

The quarterback commit said he also got some time to meet with Campbell a couple times during the day.

"I usually talk to him before and after the practice," Moore said. "He told me how they're going to run things on the offensive side. He broke down some film and showed me where people messed up and what they did good, so I can kind of see what's going on."

Since becoming the first verbal for 2017 last year, Moore has made it a point to keep in contact with all members of his recruiting class.

"I talk to the other commits three to four times a week at the least," he said. "We keep in contact and keep that good friendship so we can start it up good when we get there. It's awesome to see the talent we have. It's going to be a great feeling when we put some wins on the board when we get there."

In order to get an even better feel for the Cyclones, Moore said he plans to be a frequent visitor this fall. He's planning to take an official visit sometime in January
