After performing well in front of Iowa State coaches and picking up an offer at a satellite camp earlier this summer, a Class of 2018 offensive lineman from the state of Illinois made his first visit to Ames over the weekend.

Peoria (Ill.) rising junior Marques Cox said he spent a lot of time with the Cyclones' head coach Matt Campbell and likes the direction the program is headed.

"I really liked the visit to Iowa State and the coaches were great," said Cox, who picked up his first and only offer from I-State on June 5th following a solid performance during a satellite camp at Augustana College.

"Me and Coach Campbell got to talk and get to know each other. I had my mom and dad with me, we toured the campus and saw where everything happens. They said I'd have tutors and stuff off the field to help me with my academics. We checked out the football field. I really like the campus and what Coach Campbell's state of mind is on the team."

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound Cox believes he would be a good fit to play in the trenches at ISU.

"They said I would be a nice addition to the offensive line, because at my school we run an (up-tempo) offense and they do something like that," Cox said. "The coaches liked how my footwork was at the camp and they see me being able to play with them. Coach Campbell said he wished I could play right then, but unfortunately it couldn't happen like that."

Cox, who has also been recruited by Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and Central Michigan, said he is planning a return visit to Ames for the season opener against Northern Iowa. He's also planning an unofficial visit to Iowa.

After visiting with Campbell during his visit, Cox said he feels the Cyclones will have a good season in 2016.

"I think they are going to be really good this year," Cox said. "Coach Campbell explained to me how they work, so I think they're going to be very good. I'm also looking forward to their game against Iowa."
