I don't remember a time when the coaches seem genuinely optimistic about real depth [feel they can play] like we have now. Listened to a bunch of interviews available at Cyclones.com and other sites:
Oline they talk about 5 returning starters plus Ramos, Downing and Hudson. Flatly state they are improved but still want more.
Running Back they seem happy with the returning guys [Croney, Nwangwu, Lang] and like what Hall has done from day 1 to day 15. Lots of Competition, and seem comfortable with experience.
QB is all Purdy. Backup is a big gap, reading between the lines.
TE - Allen, Kolar, and Soehner are all talked about. Others were mentioned very positively, but that might be coach speak as they are primarily walk-ons. Fullback likely comes from those guys.
WR - They seem really high on Milton and Jones. Akers also gets plenty of plug. They seem high on Scates, Shaw and Marten but it is cloaked as potential. Don't read that they have that go-to guy just yet.
Defense - They are very comfortable with depth on the line. 2-3 deep at nose, and probably 4-5 deep at defensive end [Lima, Johnson and a lot of mention of Bailey( the other one) at Nose, Eni, Bailey, Leo, 2 Petersons, at DE]
LB - Rose, Spears, Vance, Hummel - then they gush about McDonald [even hinting he is "special"] and positive mention of Pulvermacher [gotta love the name for LB]
CB - really high on the two soph corners from Florida. This might be a depth concern area because they talk about the grad transfer coming this summer. The others not as optimistic sounding.
Safety - really high on the starters [Eisworth as special, and just get the feel that they are more comfortable with the depth, but a feeling and nothing specific to point to.]
Special Teams - we will have them. [I say that in a bit of humor because there was no talk about them that I found, but everyone is back] That is good except for the argument over whether the new punter last year was average or terrible. Hopefully that won't take up another 100 post thread.
Looking forward to next fall.
