A Florida prep defensive back in the 2020 class will get his first look at Iowa State during a September official visit and says that will be a big factor in his making a decision.
Seffner Armwood rising senior Emmanuel Perry has been high on the Cyclones from the beginning, but has not been able to visit Ames yet. That will change when he travels northwest for an official visit the weekend of the Iowa State/Iowa game.
“They’re still my number one school and I’m continuing to strengthen my relationship with the coaches,” said Perry. “I’m talking to Coach (D.K.) McDonald quite a bit. He says I’m a priority to them in this class and that I could play a big role in their defense.
“I have an official visit scheduled up there for the weekend of September 14th, so I’ll be up there for the big game against Iowa. I’m excited to get up there and the game will be intense. It’ll be great to get on campus to see everything, like the dorms and facilities. Seeing the academics is also a big thing to me.”
The 6-foot-0, 195-pound Perry also has offers from Campbell, Kent State, South Dakota, South Florida, Southern Miss and Toledo. He’s a three-star prospect with a 5.5 Rivals rating.
Iowa State has safeties Craig McDonald and Jordyn Morgan committed for the 2020 class, but is still looking for its first commit from a recruit that would begin his career as a cornerback. Perry appears to be a priority for McDonald and the rest of the defensive staff.
“Coach McDonald sends me videos of the team and they work hard every day and in the weight room,” Perry said. “I love that they play with five DBs and that gives me a chance to get on the field sooner. They’re looking at me to play cornerback.”
Perry said much of his recruiting focus right now is on ISU, as he hasn’t traveled anywhere else.
“I really just want to take this visit to Iowa State and if everything goes well make a decision up there,” he said. “I don’t have any other visits scheduled and don’t really want to go anywhere else.”
