While I was very disappointed with the turnout, the event itself was a good one. Tyson Veidt was our guest coach. The eastern third of Iowa is one of Tyson's recruiting responsibilities. Tyson is yet another impressive member of Matt Campbell's staff. It is fun to interact with the coaches in an informal setting. This staff seems to be very easy to talk to and they don't talk down to you. They seem to enjoy interacting with fans. While his talk was brief, he handled quite a few good questions from the crowd.
The highlight of the night had to be when former player Kyle Knock asked to say a few things about this new staff. Kyle played on the McCarney teams during the 5 year winning streak against Iowa. He was one of those guys that never lost to Iowa, which is a big deal when you live in Cedar Rapids and played at ISU. He is currently on the coaching staff of Cedar Rapids Kennedy. Kyle spoke very highly of the new staff and their open door policy. In the past the doors of the football facility were locked, but they are now open and these guys are welcomed with open arms at any time. He said he sat in a position room meeting for a few hours along with the team. The people he came with were patiently waiting, but even they had great things to say as they were constantly being asked if they needed water or anything else. I wish I had taken notes, but I'm sure we will continue to hear more and more of this as time goes on.
If anybody else was there hopefully they can give a better account of the night. My only disappointment was with the poor turnout among the locals. I don't get it. There are too many Cyclone fans in this area for this not to be better attended. Are people just not getting the word?
