This is my second trip to the new Freddy's which recently opened near my Cedar Rapids home.

The first trip my expectations were too high and I was disappointed. I had a single cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate shake. The burger was okay, but not if you were expecting greatness. If you were expecting something like a McDonalds, this may be a small step up from that. The fries were good, but by the time you get them home they were cold as they are too small to retain the heat (someone pointed that out on the previous thread). The shake was a big disappointment. I figured a place that had custard in the name would have something better. This was not.

This trip I ordered just a double cheeseburger (which as Lone Clone pointed out is their "signature" dish). I skipped the fries. I ordered a Pepsi, which I should have passed on as I am a Coke person. Now that my expectations are more lined up with just another fast food place, I can say the hamburger was pretty good. I really think one needs to stick with the double, not the single. It's a much better tasting sandwich. One problem they have is that they don't start cooking them until you order and the drive up line is backed up. You are at the place a long time from start to stop. Maybe this will improve as the newness wears off. As it stands now, while the burgers are good, they may not be worth the wait. The place is only about a mile down the road from my home, and it took me an hour round trip. And I left home around 11:00 to beat the rush. It looked like there was a big line inside, so I don't think eating in is much better.
