So we spent a week in SW Florida. Sanibel - Bonita Springs. Further my M-i-L lives in the Villages.
We love the North (Twin Cities is home - our house is 1 blk off a metro lake) - but I tinker mentally with warm weather retirement approaches. Just curious how (old) folks here approach warm weather retirement topic?
Rent vs buy?
Year around vs seasonal?
Condo vs home? (maintenance).
I get that ultimately it's personal preference - but like to hear how people approach it.
Speaking of Florida:
The Villages kind of freaks me out (spring break for the elderly) , but it's an affordable way of owning a residence in Florida that you may only use 2-5 months a year. Even with younger kids - we could buy a second residence in warm weather now if we wanted, but don't see the value in doing so if we only use it (up to) 30 days a year.
We like Ft Meyers / Bonita Springs / Naples. The best option I can think of for us: buy a condo at some point in the future (lower maintenance than single family), SW Florida, us it 3-5 months during dead of Minneapolis winter - keep our northern house.
Anyone...anyone...
