Here in Tucson, the U of Arizona sold all or part of its Med School Hospital to Banner for the reason that Medicare and other medical payer systems have balked at paying for the entourage of students and others following the professors around the hospital trying to learn how to be doctors. They seem to want to pay a fixed amount for procedures only. I have been expecting to see news of this sort of thing happening in Iowa City, but have not seen it in the news. Am I missing something, or is the legislature covering these costs?
