Does anyone think it is weird how trains can come through towns across America and blow these really loud whistles in the middle of the night all the way through town? It seems like waking people up at 3:00 AM when the train comes through would have been a big issue for a century, but I haven't heard anything about it ever being an issue. It seems it would have been even worse in the days before air conditioning when more people slept with their windows open. I've stayed in a hotel recently where that whistle goes off in the middle of the night and you have to pry me off the ceiling. And just in case someone somehow slept through the first whistle, they keep blowing it to make sure no one escapes.
