I didn't know that you didn't have to recycle alkaline batteries. We had a battery bin at work to collect batteries for recycling and no indication that alkaline batteries were not welcome. But when I made a trip to Interstate Batteries and took some alkalinebatteries for recycling the employee told me they don't recycle them. They just throw them in the trash. The guy that waited on my wasn't the bright bulb, in fact he seemed downright stupid, so I had my doubts.

I Googled "do you need to recycle alkaline batteries" to get an answer I could believe and the first link to come up was from Iowa State. It confirmed that it was not only okay to throw them in the trash, but preferable to do that rather than accumulate them for disposal. Maybe everybody already knew that, but I didn't. For those that didn't know, I'm hear to educate. :)

This info applies only to alkaline batteries. Most other types of batteries should be recycled.
