Ok, figure this could produce some lively discussion. I'm pretty old and old school but have a 14 year old who is involved in football, wrestling, track and weight lifting. Unlike me and like his mom he is a very healthy eater who checks all ingredients for fat content. Eats a lot of turkey but not much, if any red meat. He makes his own smoothies and eats tons of grapes (anyone check the prices of those lately?) I'll give him credit for his diet and he does work hard (except around the home of course:) But like any 14 year old he knows everything and his dad doesn't know shit. We visited a couple nutrition stores yesterday. They appeared sincere and knowledgeable and told us there are things they wouldn't sell him such as pre-workout supplements and testosterone boosters.

He has taken some protein drinks and has had some powder supplement. A lot of friends are taking protein and some creatine. I've done some research and it appears the protein is ok as long as they don't load up which in excess can cause liver/kidney damage. There are several types of creatine, he wants to take the one that helps muscles heal quicker. One coach told them to stay away from creatine and another said it isn't the miracle cure but said he isn't against it but they need to drink a lot of water. He also said stay away from pre-workout and testosterones.

I don't want to be an old codger and would be okay with it if it is safe and helpful. Talked to another parent who is a physical therapist. He said he would have to see the ingredients but wonders why you would need a supplement that you could get in a good diet. So what does Cyclone Report think? TIA
