Larry Curtis passed away on January 21, 2016. Larry was the mayor of Ames from 1990-1997 and also was a local attorney and taught Business Law at ISU. There are various pictures of Larry and Fred Hoiberg around including one in the obituary below.
My last final at ISU was Business Law (summer of 1975) and I took it early in the Industrial Administration office so I could get a head start on interviewing as I left for Minneapolis that afternoon. Things went well and I landed a job and returned to Ames a week or two later to pack up. In the mail were my grades and I had an F in Business Law.
I called Larry and he told me that they couldn't find my final so he flunked me but said that he couldn't do that because, as customary, they sent around a letter to all instructors a couple of weeks before the end of the quarter and he had marked it that I was on track to pass and graduate. He told me he would give me a C which I wasn't wild about because I thought I did well but, at that point, I just wanted this resolved so I could start work.
He was a good professor and, from the obituary, sounds like he was a good Cyclone- who knew the whole mayor thing would follow.
