Thinking objectively about the Caucus and its impact on the political process today, I was struck with what a good thing this is for Iowa. Regardless of our political position and in spite of what most of us hate about the ads and non-stop coverage, it is a PR boon for the state and the city of Des Moines. Since graduating from ISU, my family has lived all over the USA, and nowhere else with the exception of perhaps, New Hampshire gains so much from this attention every 4 years.
The Des Moines metro is growing like crazy with new retail shopping, new building, restaurants, attractions, etc, and the rest of state certainly benefits as well. A lot of money is spent by the candidates, their teams, and especially the news organizations and political campaigns. Iowa gains a lot of economic development and notoriety to build its brand equity which has a lasting impact on perceptions from the rest of the country.
With no intention of making this a political discussion, what are your thoughts about this process?
