As you may remember, the place where I work was moving the jobs I do to Austin, Texas, and there were two openings left here to be filled by the 6 people who do my job.

The jobs were filled yesterday and I got one of them.

When we were first informed of this situation, I didn't think I had a shot. They were looking for someone well-versed in social media, which I'm not. If they went strictly by seniority, I would have been the second in line for the job, but they made it clear they couldn't do that.

So the senior guy, who is much younger than me (about 42, but has worked there since he was 20) and the boss, who's in her late 30s, were the guys I expected to get the two jobs. Both are young and both more well versed in social media than I am. But neither one of them got a job. I was shocked.

It was me and another guy, who would have been 3rd in the seniority chain who's in his mid-40s. A third guy is probably going to take a photography position that has been open for at least a year or more. So of the original six, three will still have jobs there ... if they want them. The photography guy is still undecided.

I can't tell you how relieved I am that I don't have to move to Austin, freaking, Texas. My eldest daughter is even more relieved because she doesn't have to move with me. (Her idea to move with me if that became necessary, not mine.)
