After I dropped cable, I ordered a Channel Master DVR+. I immediately got spoiled because the program guide is so much better than the one the cable company provides. It was always frustrating the that cable guide included stations that weren't part of your package and also had no tools to group favorites or hide stations you aren't interested in. That's really important when there are a hundred channels or more. And yes if you connect the cable directly to your TV, you can use the TV to create favorites that you can't with the cable box, but then you give up the guide. The Channel Master DVR+ gives you the program guide and lets you hide channels. And it provides Vudu, YouTube and Pandora streaming channels. I have over the air at the condo also and I miss not having the DVR+.
What I already liked, just got better. I just got a notification of a software update that is downloading now. While the software was downloading I checked the Internet to see what was new and was happy to find that they have added SlingTV as one of the new features. The addition of SlingTV is great. I really think the DVR+ is a model for the future of TV. The DVR+ has not caught up with Roku and the other set top boxes for the streaming services yet, but it looks like they will. But the DVR+ has what the Roku and others don't. The DVR+ has dual over-the-air tuners and a free program guide that no one else has that I'm aware of. I highly recommend this for people who have cut the cord. It's a little pricey, but keep an eye out for specials. I'm kicking myself now for not ordering a second unit when I had the chance at a substantially reduced price.
