I am watching CNN coverage of the eastern snow storm....

My family, from Ogden, were in Des Moines shopping in 1973 when word came out about a huge snow storm was approaching.....we took I-35 to Ames during a heavy snowfall.....my mom begged by dad to stop in Ames.....my dad said it was ok and we took I-30 towards Ogden. Between Ames and Boone we couldn't see anymore because of the snow. My dad opened the car door as he drove to make sure we were still on the highway. We followed the taillights of cars in front of us because you couldn't see more than 10-15 feet. My mom was crying like a baby.....The cars we were following ended up in the ditch and we almost followed....we were going to stop in Boone but couldn't see the exit due to the heavy snow....we finally made it to Ogden and by a miracle saw the exit....

When I see the television coverage of this new storm in the East I am guessing that it will never be anything like what happened in 1973 in Iowa......cattle covered over their heads in snow....snow over the top of the roofs of homes and buildings...it was something I will never forget!!!!

I hope the people in the NE will be ok but I kind of chuckle when I see them panicking over a few inches of snow on the ground right now. Turn on CNN and watch. I have more inches of snow in my driveway than they have in the worst parts of the NE. With that said the winds that are predicted will make travel very hazardous. I called my best buddy in Virginia Beach and he said they are only going to get rain.

You know it is a 'real' blizzard when you can't see your neighbor's house, 50 yards away, in daylight!
