I made the beautiful drive from Ames out to Buena Vista County last week for a story interview, taking 30 west and then driving through cattle country north and west of Carroll. Nothing like driving among cattle feedlots to bring back memories of your childhood. I really love that whole area. Found out Auburn is still standing, and made my very first tour of Schaller.
I drove past the little burg of Hanover, and the folks I visited told me a little history of the area. Beautiful St. John's Lutheran Church was up on the hill within eyeshot of Hanover, with a cemetery filled with settlers to the area.
Rural Iowa is so unique and peaceful. I simply love getting back out in the country whenever I can.
