I get a monthly real estate update from Hunziker here in Ames, and this month's issue had property tax comparisons between the Ames School and surrounding districts. Just thought it might be interesting for some of you local residents and out-of-towners. These annual taxes are based on a home assessed at $200,000:

Ames--Gilbert Schools (north end of Ames)--$3,960
Huxley--Ballard Schools--$4,696
Nevada--Nevada Schools--$4,345
Story City--Roland-Story Schools--$3,225
Ankeny--Ankeny Schools--$4,893
Ames also has a 5% Instructional Support Levy on Iowa income tax paid. Pay the governor $2,000 in Iowa tax, and you pay the Ames Schools another $100 in taxes.
