One in a number of three-star recruits headed to Iowa State this weekend is a senior offensive lineman from the state of Georgia who was once committed to the program.

Jefferson Class of 2017 standout Caleb Chandler said he was to speak personally with Coach Manning today to get his trip scheduled.

“I’m looking forward to being at Iowa State starting this Friday,” said Chandler, who will be taking his second official visit of the recruiting process. “I’m confirming the visit with Coach Manning (Tuesday). We’re going to get it all set up. I can’t wait to talk to some of the players and coaches. I want to hang out with Zeb (Noland) and see how he’s doing.”

The 6-foot-5, 295-pound Chandler says Cyclone coaches have been in frequent contact with him, and have been in town on multiple occasions.

“They came down to see the St. Pius game and I had an in-home visit with Coach Manning and Coach (Bryan) Gasser last Tuesday,” Chandler said.

“They talked to me about how I could come up there, lead the team and be a part of something great. They asked me to trust the rebuilding process. They said I’d have a good chance of getting a really good education. Coach Manning and Coach Gasser really caught my parents’ eye and they really loved them.”

Head coach Matt Campbell’s staff appears ready to play Chandler’s recruitment out until the final hours leading up to Signing Day, as the big man figures to have a busy month of January ahead of him.

He’ll take an official visit to Louisville the weekend of January 13-15 and could be headed to Florida in the week or two after that stop. He took his first official visit to Miami (Fla.) the weekend of October 14-16.

“They are giving me time, because I have so much going on right now,” Chandler said. “They know that all of this is hard and I’ve got to make the best decision for me and my parents at the time that I want.”

Chandler, the 71st-ranked player in the state of Georgia and #74 offensive tackle for the Class of 2017, hasn’t named a list of favorites. In addition to ISU, he has Power-5 offers from the likes of Florida, Miami (Fla.), Louisville, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Missouri, NC State, Purdue, TCU and Virginia Tech.
