One of the late additions for this weekend’s official visitor roster was an offensive lineman from the Ohio high school ranks. The three-star tackle shared some thoughts on his trip upon leaving Ames this morning.
Lewis Center Olentangy’s Luke Campbell had been committed to Purdue since mid-June, but opted to take a visit to Iowa State since with former Boilermaker verbal Dylan Powell.
“I really liked the facilities and they really stood out to me, especially the weight room and the new addition to the stadium,” said Campbell, the 25th-ranked player in the state of Ohio and 44th-ranked overall at his position nationally.
“It was pretty awesome all around. The staff for sure is the number one reason I was visiting. I’ve been talking to them since they were at Toledo and my junior year is when they offered me. I really have a good connection with the staff.”
Getting the opportunity to be around good friend Powell was another reason to take a look at I-State.
“I’ve known Dylan for quite a while now, we both had committed to Purdue and went on our officials there,” Campbell said. “I’m pretty good friends with him and got to know him pretty well.”
The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Campbell said he’ll be looked at to play outside if he signs with the Cyclones.
“They want me at offensive line and most likely as a tackle,” he said. “They said they need real athletic, quick, explosive and aggressive linemen, and they think I fit that mold. They do a lot of quick pace and movement in the offense, so they need linemen that fit into that approach.”
Campbell didn’t want to say much about his current status with Purdue, but says he still considers himself to be a part of their recruiting class.
“Right now I’m currently committed to Purdue,” Campbell said. “I’m not going to say too much about that part and don’t want to get into it too much.”
ISU will continue doing its due diligence on Campbell, just as it had in the weeks leading up to his visit.
“I’ve talked to quite a bit of them over the last two weeks with them visiting,” he said. “They were out here last week before I came on my visit and I’m sure they’ll stop by after.”
Next up for Campbell is an official visit to Maryland next weekend. He says he hopes to finalize things soon after that trip.
“Hopefully within the next two weeks, depending on how things go,” he said.
