I took my dog (4 year old German Shepherd female) to the vet today because she hasn’t been having regular bowel movements. Last movement was Saturday afternoon and it wasn’t a huge amount. On Friday night she was in pain but had no idea where the pain was coming from and figured that she was aching because I ran her into the ground Thursday playing fetch.
She still had the drive to play (even this morning I was throwing the ball to her) before I took her to the vet. He asked the normal questions if she was eating (yes), drinking (yes), and if in pain (occasionally but not constant).
He called me this afternoon and said he took an X-ray and saw she was backed up. He said that they were able to get the blockage out, checked white blood cell count (good), but said bigger dogs are more perceptive to get bloat and since she had gas backed up he would like to keep her over night.
Honestly I’m just a wreck. I read what bloat was online and some of it does match her symptoms but a few things don’t add up if it were bloat. Is it typical of a dog to still have a huge drive to play? She never vomited or acted like she had too. Is that normal? Last but not least, she still had an appetite and was drinking water (2 liter a day for the past few years). Is this normal for a dog that would have bloat?
Thanks in advance
