I wondered if anyone else in my area saw this:
I sit 5 rows up directly behind the scorer's table. Barta, and someone who sure looked his brother, were sitting in the first row, and then to his right were 5 or 6 men dressed in the black and gold. So all were just feet from the court with just the table separating them from the court.
These Hawk fans (not Barta) were being totally obnoxious with their antics especially during the first 30 minutes. Every time Niang ran by, one or two in particular stood up and razzed Niang loudly enough for him to hear it.
To his credit, Georges never flinched or did anything about it during the game, because to be fair, Georges brought a lot of this on himself with his 4 years of Twitter banter with Hawk fans and with his "kiss" after last year's game. But I thought it was pretty childish of these grown men to be razzing a college player the way they were during the game. Especially Hawk fans who were part of some "official party" representing the school.
I was sitting there thinking that if these guys were sitting next to Jamie and acting like this, he might just tell them to cool it.
What got interesting after the game, just before Niang headed to the locker room, he came over and got the attention of these jerks and when they looked his way Georges yelled something and blew them one of his patented "kisses". You could tell Niang was really upset, and a couple people actually held him back a bit and encouraged him to just get to the locker room.
It was such an emotionally charged atmosphere last night, I was glad when it was all over and there were no incidents between the players....and in this case, the fans.
