It was a couple of weeks later than expected, but 2017 three-star defensive back prospect Keontae Jones got his June visit in to Iowa State.

The 6-foot-0, 175-pound Jones from Cincinnati (Ohio) Colerain traveled to Ames this past weekend for an unofficial visit to check out the ISU football program. He had previously considered coming to Cyclone Country the second weekend of the month when his older brother – Deshaunte Jones – reported as an incoming Cyclone freshman. The timing for that didn’t work out, so instead the younger Jones made his way to Iowa State on the last weekend of the month.

“It went pretty good,” Jones said about the visit. “I was able to do the camp on Saturday night and also tour the campus a little bit. It was good to be coached by Coach Heacock, I liked that about the camp.”

Naturally, Jones spent time with his older brother and got some words of advice about being prepared should he be reporting to Iowa State as a freshman about this time next summer.

“He just said to be ready for the conditioning and the workouts if I end up going there,” said Jones. “He just said be ready.”

Jones is in no hurry to make a commitment decision to Iowa State or anywhere else as of right now, he said. Jones said he is simply enjoying the process and hasn’t really put together a list of top schools.

The Iowa State visit came a week after he took a trip for an unofficial visit to Indiana. Jones said that he doesn’t have any more summer visits scheduled as of this time.

“I’m just working out and focusing on winning my school a state championship,” Jones said. “That’s really where I’m at right now.”

Jones’ offer list includes Power 5 programs such as Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisville, Maryland, Purdue, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin. His total offer list numbers nearly 20 schools.
