First off, I hate NIL. It's BS that TCU pays 20+ transfer (free agent) players and everyone says what a remarkable turnaround they are. That said, we have to play the NIL game and we have less $$$ than basically anybody.
Here's what seems like a viable strategy to me:
No NIL for incoming freshmen recruits (maybe small amounts for destitute families to travel to games)
Grab passed-over young players and develop them.
Retain starters with NIL money. Hopefully we can retain a player for $50k that Texas/etc. would pay $100k to.
Pay NIL for transfer players almost guaranteed to start e.g. a 5th year OL.
If we have roughly $1M to work with, we're looking at NIL deals for 20-30 players. Thoughts?
