Iowa State forward Georges Niang has been named one of 10 finalists for the Karl Malone Award, announced today by the Basketball Hall of Fame. The Karl Malone Award is given annually to the nation’s top power forward.

Niang, a Methuen, Massachusetts, native, is averaging 19.1 points, which is good for second in the Big 12 and leads the Cyclones. The senior is also grabbing a career-best 6.1 rebounds and dishing out 3.0 assists per game. Niang is shooting 52.1 percent from the field and hitting 83.3 percent of his free-throw attempts.

Niang has scored in double-figures in all 22 games this season, posting 20 or more points nine times. With 1,930 career points, he is closing in on becoming just the third player in school history and the eighth in Big 12 history to score 2,000 points.

Niang is the only player in the nation with 1,900 points, 600 rebounds and 350 assists.
