Sorry I can't give my normal spot-on, life-altering analysis, since the game is one big fuzzy, pain-med-induced blur. I didn't even have the foresight to record it...which I regret.
I do remember thinking over and over again what a great job our pass coverage team must doing, because most of the time, we were only rushing three. And you could tell that the pass rush was more of a spy/contain type pass rush. I know the sexy story is the Lanning angle, and I think he did great for his first start. However, I feared, and I think it explains CPR's post game comments somewhat, that the absolute outstanding defense played by ISU would be lost in the aftermath.
I also remember thinking "When are the ISU Refs going to #@$& us?" I thought it started when we got that weak-assed holding call on the long TD run that got called back.
I also woke up from my afternoon nap to David Irving blocking a FG for the Cowboys and thinking that he should still be at ISU. I know PC has expressed this opinion in the past, but I really wish ISU was more like our conference peers as far as offering some protection to athletes when they do stupid things. I'm not advocating turning a blind eye to everything and become a version of Tom Osborne's NU. I just don't think that we can ever hope to compete at a meaningful level trying to be the purest team in the conference. I know with the prominence of cell phone cameras, the day of athlete's anonymity is over, bust sometimes I just get tired of trying to be "better than you" in an area that doesn't matter as much. I can't stress enough that this would not include anything where someone is hurt.
I'm having trouble keeping any type of line of thinking going for more than 30 seconds these days, so I'm going to leave it at that, for now. But with all of my upcoming down time, I hope to be on here participating on the board more often.
Also a quick thanks to all who have reached out on here or via social media with your thoughts an prayers as I recover from the arrogance of my youth. I have a feeling, though, given my genetics, it was just a matter of time! Hope to see some of you this winter in Hilton, but next year, converting from a HS Senior athletic dad to a 6th grade one, some of my Saturdays will be freed up to make a return trip to JTS as well! Maybe I can work with JP to promote and demonstrate some "heart-healthy" tailgating options! I know I can work my magic on the smoker with things that aren't on the "killer" list! I do a mean BBQ chicken breast! ;-)
