A senior cornerback who committed to Iowa State during the Five-Star Challenge this summer caught up with the team during a road game at Akron this weekend, and says he’s still feeling the love.
Detroit (Mich.) Martin Luther King’s Jaeveyon Morton (5-8/169) made the three-plus hour drive from his home to see the Cyclones win their second game of the season.
“I’ve been hearing a lot from Iowa State and how they’re really waiting for me to come up there,” said Morton. “I went to the game over the weekend and had a lot of fun. I really liked it and it was a great game. The defense played well and they were really competing and flying to the ball. I like how the defensive backs played during the game. I also like to see that young guys there are getting a chance to play early.”
A three-star recruit with a 5.7 Rivals rating, Morton chose the Cyclones this summer over Power-5 offers from Iowa, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Syracuse.
As a senior at MLK, Morton is playing on both sides of the ball and says he has 10 tackles but has yet to record an interception on defense. Offensively, he’s scored four touchdowns from the wide receiver position.
Morton said he will make a visit to Ames in the coming months to take his official visit, but will wait until after the first of the year to sign.
“I’m going out there one of the first weeks in January,” he said. “I am probably going to be signing in February.”
