Iowa State hosted a three-star hybrid linebacker late last week who's also the high school teammate of a verbal commitment for the Class of 2017.
Cedar Hill (Texas) standout rising senior Dimitri Moore said he was surprised of all that he saw during his one-day visit to ISU on Friday.
"The first thing was the visual when I first went there," said Moore. "I liked the football facility and then when I got to talking to the coaches that opened my eyes a lot. The coaches had a lot of good things to say and a lot of big plans. They are new coaches, but I think they have a great future at the school."
With plenty of other Power-5 level offers out there, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Moore said the recruiting process is getting much more difficult by the day.
"(I-State) wasn't what I expected," Moore said. "It was a very nice campus and I liked the school a lot. The coaches were very friendly. It makes recruiting a little bit harder, because a lot of schools are looking good right now. I've got to sit down and think about it a little while."
In addition to I-State, Moore also has Power-5 offers from Arkansas, Arizona State, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri, Texas Tech and Utah.
During a busy week of trips, Moore visited Missouri this past Thursday and was in Minnesota on Saturday. Moore has yet to schedule any official visits, but says he will start by setting dates to Colorado and Arizona State since he has yet to see those campuses.
Moore claims no top schools at this point in the process.
"There's no list of favorites yet," he said. "I'm graduating in early December, so obviously a decision has to be made before then. It would be nice to have one before the season, but that's alright if I don't."
If the Cyclones were to snag Moore in the 2017 class, they would likely slot him in at a specialized position on defense.
"I am a hybrid-type of linebacker, so they said it all depends on how I grow when I get there," he said. "I could be playing another position when I get there. They mentioned I would play the LEO position to start. They explained it to me and I liked that a lot. They broke down some film with the LEO and I think that would be a good fit."
Moore is the teammate of ISU verbal commit Deven Lamp, a defensive end who picked the school following an unofficial visit earlier this summer. It certainly doesn't hurt the Cyclones' chances to have Lamp in the fold, but it won't be the deciding factor says Moore.
"That's my bro and we are close on and off the field," Moore said. "He likes Iowa State a lot. But it doesn't play as much of a factor in my recruitment. It's what I feel at the end of the day. It will depend on where I'm at with things."
