One of the top Class of 2017 prospects in the state of Minnesota, regardless of position, is an offensive lineman from Minneapolis.
For several weeks, it’s been Iowa State and the in-state Gophers battling for a commitment from Robbinsdale Cooper junior Eric Abojei.
The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Abojei, ranked as a three-star recruit and fourth overall in Minnesota for 2017, said he’s looking forward to making a visit to Ames this weekend.
“I’ve been talking a lot to the coaches and I’ve been trying to get a better relationship and connect with them more,” said Abojei. “Every time we talk it seems like we’ve always known each other. We’re trying to bond more.
“They want to see me and talk to me about where I’d fit in within the program. I hope to talk to them and see what they have in store for me. I’m going down there this weekend and want to see how that goes, to see the facility and talk to the coaches.”
In addition to ISU and Minnesota, Abojei said he’s hearing a lot from Syracuse and Illinois. The junior said he’s not quite ready to make a commitment yet.
“At the moment, I’m still open and open-minded to different decisions,” he said. “I don’t really believe I’m that close yet. I have a lot of options and really like them. I’m looking to see more of my colleges. I do believe my time will be coming soon to make my decision. I’m liking all of the colleges I’ve been talking to.”
