Iowa State hosted a Class of 2017 wide receiver from the state of Florida on an official visit over the weekend, and the standout said one aspect of his experience stood out above the rest.

Bradenton Manatee’s Tarique Milton returned home from Ames on Sunday and reflected on his trip Monday night.

“The coaching staff really stood out to me,” said Milton. “I feel like I’m building a good bond with all of the coaches and coaches families and am very comfortable around them. The coaches and players were really friendly. They really have a big fan base up there. They are very loyal and love the players and football program.”

The 5-foot-10, 159-pound Milton is a two-star recruit by Rivals.com, but has an impressive group of Power-5 offers that includes Iowa State, Kentucky, Michigan State and Rutgers. His official visit to Ames over the weekend was his first of the recruiting cycle.

After watching the Cyclones’ offense explode in the blowout victory over San Jose State, Milton said he liked how things flowed.

“I really liked watching them,” Milton said. “It’s a high-tempo offense that just keeps the ball moving. Coach (Bryan) Gasser met with me and told me that he was going to use me in multiple ways, just trying to get the ball in my hands.

Milton was hosted by I-State freshman defensive back Romelo Webster.

“He is actually from Florida and not too far from where I’m from,” Milton said. “I played against him in 7-on-7. It wasn’t really too much about the school; it was just hanging out, catching up and getting to know each other a little better.”

As is the custom, each recruit’s official visit wrapped up with Sunday morning breakfast with Coach Matt Campbell. Milton said he and Campbell leveled with each other on where they are in the process.

“He told me that I would be a perfect fit and really wants me,” Milton said. “He just touched base with me as a person and told me to make the best decision on whatever fits me. He said I would have the support I needed to succeed up there. I told him that I really like Iowa State, but I want to focus on my season and am not making a decision right then.”

Milton said he has no other official visits scheduled at this point.
