……….the Wazzu offense didn't surprise me with any of their plays but perhaps more than any other offense, their short passing game is essentially their rush offense and it became even more evident watching it again in person several years after Leach left TT.
And that is why IMO the ISU offense could improve their attack by stealing from their short passing playbook, especially when the rush offense is struggling and to diversify the offense. And we aren't talking about getting up to 50 or more pass attempts like Wazzu does. The obvious need for this was against Texas but the two 2nd half possessions in Wazzu territory where we came up with only 1 FG was a backbreaker, I thought a couple of 2nd down calls on each of those possessions would have been aided by some trademark low risk Leach passing plays (and we know that CMC is generally risk averse).
Next season could have Allen and Kolar as two of the four best receivers so both will much more likely be on field together and both could be better utilized in the short passing game along with Kene. And Purdy will be more than capable of executing the reads to make it work.
