Although he missed out on Iowa State's big recruiting day at the end of June, a three-star linebacker from the state of Michigan is looking forward to an official visit in the month of September.

Muskegon rising senior Andrew Ward said he's kept in steady contact with the coaching staff and is encouraged by the vision it has for him in the program.

"As of now I text them and talk to them every day," said Ward. "We talk about the positions I'm going to be playing most of the time and where they picture me in the future. They envision me playing more of an outside linebacker there, whereas in high school I have played inside linebacker."

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Ward did take an unofficial visit during the spring, an experience in which he still recalls fondly.

"It was great a time," he said. "They have pretty good facilties and the building was great. The food was also good. I sat down with a couple coaches on my visit, watched some tape and they compared me to a couple of former players that they coached."

Ward is now targeting a return trip to Ames sometime early in the upcoming season.

"I am planning on coming down for an official visit," he said. "My plan was to make the team barbeque so I could interact with the players and coaches, but something came up and I wasn't able to make that. Right now I'm planning to be there in the middle of September for an official visit."

In addition to his offer from the Cyclones, Ward also has Power-5 offers from the likes of Penn State, Nebraska, Virginia Tech, Arizona and Washington State.

Ward hasn't yet released a top-schools list, but says he does have a few in mind.

"I have a top-three and am trying to keep that a secret," he said. "I can definitely tell you that Iowa State is one of the schools in that mix. I plan on making a decision around the middle of my high school season."
