Iowa State and Iowa played in the same conference? I didn't. Found it interesting the history of the Big 8 conference and it's break from the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MVIAA).

It's all kinda confusing, and it seems that some teams were considered members of more than one conference back then. Looks like Iowa and ISU were in MVIAA for 4 years together (1908-1911... although it says on another link that ISU joined in 1907, in same year as Iowa.

Also.... was looking (on Ebay) at old Sunoco NFL player stamps given away for gas purchases back in around 1973 (or in my case bought with my paper route money from employees, and I'm sure pocketed by them!). I remember the stamp pictures like it was yesterday when I see them on Ebay. I remember they had the colleges they attended on them (or in the book you pasted them in I believe) and learning of the players that went to ISU. I use to buy them (or beg to be given them) at the Skelly/DX down on the corner of Lincoln Way and Duff). Did anyone else collect these? One player that specifically interests me was Larry Carwell. He played for ISU from 64-66 and had a pretty decent AFL/NFL career with the Oilers, Boston Patriots and NE Pats. I cannot seem to find info on his All Big8 awards for ISU players, and don't recall anyone ever really mentioning him on here when ISU greats were discussed. Does anyone older than me remember much about him? I was born in '64 so before my time. Was he recognized as one of best in Big 8? In 1984, he was a United States DEA officer working to stop the flow of marijuana and cocaine into the United States from Latin America. While aboard a U.S. helicopter bound for the Bahamas, he was one of five missing persons lost at sea when the helicopter crashed. Have a lot of respect for him for losing his life trying to fight for a good cause.
