A high school quarterback from the middle of SEC country currently has one Power-5 offer from Iowa State, and says he intends to make an unofficial visit to Ames in the coming weeks.

Baton Rouge (La.) Scotlandville’s Levi Lewis says he’s being recruited a lot by the Cyclone head coach himself and that’s made quite an impression.

“I’ve been hearing from Coach (Matt) Campbell and those guys,” said Lewis. “I’ve been on Facetime with them a couple times and they’re excited about recruiting me. It’s great to see coaches like that who want me there on campus and to see me in person.

“I want to get up there to check out the campus, because they brag on it so much. I want to see how the facilities look. I’m thinking about coming up for either the June 18th or June 25th Saturday Night Lights camp.”

Lewis says what really piqued his interest about I-State is the personalized virtual tour he got from the staff.

“Coach Campbell and Coach (Jim) Hofher showed me around the place on Facetime,” Lewis said. “I got to see the campus, offices, indoor facility and weight room. They really sold the place to me. Iowa State is number one on my list.”

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Lewis has played quarterback for his high school, but indicates he would be open to competing for another spot if that doesn’t work out for him in Ames.

“Coach Campbell is recruiting me as a quarterback, but he says he won’t let his star players sit on the bench,” Lewis said. “I don’t mind playing another position, because I don’t like talent sitting on the bench waiting when you can apply yourself somewhere else. I’ll go up there and give it my all to win the starting position when I get there.”

The Cyclones’ passing game coordinator, Hofher took in one of Lewis’ spring practices and the junior recruit said the coach came away impressed.

“Coach Hofher came down here for one of our workouts and I talked to him later over the phone,” Lewis said. “He told me how well I threw the ball, how I’m consistent on rollouts, and how well I throw the deep and over the middle passes.”

Lewis also has offers from Howard, Jackson State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Texas-San Antonio and Tulane.

As a junior quarterback, he completed 137-of-216 pass attempts for 2,588 yards, throwing 22 touchdowns to four interceptions. He was also a threat with his legs, rushing 119 times for 978 yards and nine scores.
