It's Iowa State and Kansas State atop the leader board for a Class of 2017 LEO prospect from the southeast who said he has plans to visit Ames during the football season.

Roswell (Ga.) standout defender Koby Cumberlander said he communicates with the Cyclone staff frequently and has enjoyed the relationships he's built with the coaches.

"Things are going great in the recruiting process," said Cumberlander, who is a three-star prospect from Rivals and also has offers from Arkansas State, Miami (Ohio), Southern Miss and Central Florida.

"I was recently talking to the head coach and other coaches about coming up for a visit (this fall). I've been keeping in frequent contact, probably every other day, and they've been talking about how much time they're putting into the football program and how well they're looking at practice. It's been great staying in touch with them."

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Cumberlander said he has plans to take official visits to both I-State and K-State during the upcoming season. He's unsure where else he'll take trips to. A commitment likely won't come until later in the year.

ISU coaches are preaching to Cumberlander that his ability to rush the passer could get him on the field soon in Ames.

"They really like my ability to get to the quarterback with my speed and quickness," Cumberlander said. "They're looking at me to play that defensive end/outside linebacker hybrid position. As long as I can keep getting to the quarterback, I'm straight with it.

"They also like the power I use coming off the edge and making a big play. They tell me every day that I'd make a huge difference to the program. It's pretty cool.

Cumberlander said his lead recruiters during the process have been head coach Matt Campbell, position coach Eli Rasheed and ISU's Assistant Director of Scouting Derek Hoodjer.

"They've been sending me some videos and I really like the atmosphere around their preseason practices," Cumberlander added.
