Dug out the waffle iron I inherited from my parents. To give you an idea of how long its been functioning, it was a wedding gift to my parents, who were married the day Pearl Harbor was bombed. The electrical cord is cloth-covered.
Ironically, we have a relatively new pannini press that is essentially identical in design. But we like to use the old one on special occasions.
As for the recipe, I'll be using a new one that includes sour cream. Don't have a copy of the one Mom used. For old-time batter, we go to Grandma's recipe for pancakes, which is terrific. But waffle batter and pancake batter are not interchangeable.
Anyway, looking forward to a nice, early Christmas eve dinner: Sausage patties and waffles with butter and maple syrup.
Have a great holiday, everybody.
