how a long time, solid ISU fan & booster reacted when Walden was canned. The guy immediately cut all ties with ISU and was very vocal about his anger. I thought it was an awful lot of wasted energy and outrage given Walden had waved the white flag a couple of years earlier and was simply cashing a check. Besides...Walden? I know some of you old timers will remember him as he was active in the GDSMCC and never missed a luncheon, although he did complain when the price went from $7.00 to $10.00. I'm not equating Walden & Fred by any stretch of the imagination, just how some people react when a coach leaves. Someone told me several years ago that he was really upset when a coach left and from that point on, he made sure to never allow himself to become invested in a coach on a personal level. I don't think that's a bad course of action for some fans. Athletics are these people's profession and with that is a different mindset than we fans usually have. I kind of view Fred leaving ISU as I do me leaving our family business. Incredibly difficult, but my goals were elsewhere. Thankfully my father and mother didn't view that as a rejection of them, but I'm sure they were disappointed....or not.:).
