A Florida defensive back in the 2019 class is looking ahead to an official visit to Iowa State in the next few weeks and says it will be a big one for his recruitment.

New Port Richey Mitchell rising senior Kym-Mani King said he’s had steady contact with the coaching staff throughout the summer in anticipation of his stop in Ames.

“I’ll figure out more about them once I get up there,” said King, who will play a home game the night of August 31st before boarding a red-eye flight to Iowa.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the atmosphere, meeting more of the coaches in person…things of that nature. The coaches and I talk just about every day. I talk to the head coach and quarterback coach. They text me about how I’m doing and they talk to my coach to talk about me.”

Although the Cyclones’ recruiting class is already 19 members strong, it appears the staff is open to the idea of adding more defensive backs in addition to the two already in the fold.

The 5-foot-10, 165-pound King said he believes the staff would take him if he opts to commit.

“I’m pretty high on the list; I know that for sure,” he said. “We’ll talk more in person when I get up there. They’re also looking forward to using me as a returner on special teams. On defense, they like how I play in man coverage. They’ve done some recruiting in Florida and that means they’re looking for speed. I’m glad they’re coming down here recruiting me.”

One of those Sunshine State recruits the Cyclones have added is another defensive back in Anthony Johnson. King said he’s gotten plenty of positive feedback from the Florida native.

“I have him on social media and I’ll text him about it,” King said. “I talked to him about the spring. He said when I get there, if I end up committing, there are two senior corners that will be graduating. I want to be ready to play as early as possible and get right into it.”

This will be a big senior season for King, who is adding another dimension to his athletic profile, in addition to playing in the secondary and on special teams.

“I’m playing quarterback this year and have had to do some stuff with that, but I’m always staying on top of my DB stuff,” he said. “I train with Team Tampa and go to tournaments with them. Summer workouts went great with them.”

King is a two-star recruit by Rivals with a 5.4 rating. He also has G5 offers from the likes of Georgia Southern, Marshall, South Alabama, Toledo and Western Michigan.
