After hearing from an Iowa State assistant coach on Monday, a Class of 2018 recruit from the state of Missouri has penciled in a game-day visit to Ames for later this month.

Lee’s Summit West two-way standout Mario Goodrich said he was encouraged to see running backs coach Lou Ayeni at his school yesterday.

“Coach Ayeni came down to see me and one of my teammates at school,” Goodrich said. “He’d like me to come up to the Kansas State game in a few weeks and get a look around the facility. So I’m planning to be up there that day.”

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound junior, who also has an offer from Missouri to go along with interest from Cincinnati, Florida State and Purdue, would be ticketed to the defensive side of the ball if he inks with the Cyclones in February of 2018.

“They’re looking at me as a defensive back,” Goodrich said. “They like my height, speed and think I could really help them out in a couple years with the class they’ll be bringing in. They’ll be graduating seniors by the time I get there and would rather bring in freshmen instead of JUCOs.”

Goodrich says he hasn’t done much research on the I-State program, but is ready to find out more on his visit for the Kansas State game on October 29th.

“I was checking up on the scores over the weekend to see how they played,” he said. “I don’t really know too much about the program yet, but I do like the fact they play in the Big 12.”

After returning three interceptions for touchdowns as a sophomore, Goodrich has followed up with a solid junior year in which he has five picks.

“I’m playing both sides of the ball, but mainly on the defensive side this year,” Goodrich said. “I play offense in the second half of games and still play corner.”
