One of the newest 2018 quarterback offers sent out by Iowa State is to a dual-threat prospect in the Lone Star State.
Tyler Robert E. Lee junior Chance Amie said he found out about the offer after the Cyclones’ quarterback coach was on campus during a recent contact period.
“They called my coaches one day a short time after basketball season started, and then they direct-messaged me on Twitter and told me they were coming down here to visit and watch my film,” said Amie, who also has an offer from Bowling Green to go along with interest from Texas and TCU.
“They liked what they saw and offered me. The coaches said they saw a lot of talent throwing and running. I can run in situations when needed and can throw the ball on downs that are needed. Coach (Jim) Hofher showed me a couple highlights of their quarterbacks and how they play in their offense. They really like me and said I’m their number one dual-threat quarterback on the list.”
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Amie said he has an invite to visit for any number of Junior Days and spring practice dates.
“They want me to come up anytime during the spring and visit them,” Amie said. “I have a list of basketball games that I could come up for and go visit all of the football coaches. I’m just trying to find the right day or right weekend to go up there for the visit.
“Coach Hofher wants me to meet all of the coaches. I’ve already talked to all of the coaches when I called them one time. They were all really nice and seem to like my playing style. They just really want me to meet the head coach.”
In addition to liking that it’s a Big 12 program that plays two games in the state of Texas each year, Amie said he’s drawn to the program because of the vision of the head coach.
“They have a new coach in their leading the program and new system going on,” Amie said. “Coach Campbell seems like a very good head coach and is trying to rebuild. Iowa State seems like a very nice place.”
