Before the current staff even arrived at Iowa State, a Class of 2018 prep quarterback from the state of Ohio had piqued the interest of coaches. That interest has picked up of late as the Cyclones have offered the signal-caller.

Shelby (Ohio) junior Brennan Armstrong said he thinks highly of the former Toledo coaches and is anxious to catch up with them at their newest stop.

"The recruiting process is going pretty well," said Armstrong. "I haven't really talked to a lot of colleges lately, because our high school season is just getting started and I'm focused on that.

"Before that, I had been talking to Coach (Tyson) Veidt and Coach (Matt) Campbell. I haven't been out there yet and they really want me to get out there. I want to get out there and see the campus. I met them before at Toledo, but I haven't met them out there yet. I want to check out the whole place."

It's been a long recruitment for Armstrong, who said he first started getting looks early in his career at Shelby. The first staff that was in touch? Toledo.

"It all started out my freshman year when Toledo was the first Division I team to contact my coach about me," Armstrong said. "Eventually I talked to them a little bit and I got there to a camp to meet them officially. I went there on a visit, got offered then and then went to a camp to perform for them. I did some throwing stuff and did everything they were looking for."

That interest continued to Campbell's new destination earlier this summer.

"After they moved on to Iowa State, I didn't talk to them for a little bit," Armstrong said. "Once they got settled in and comfortable, they were back in touch with me. Everything is still good and I have great relationships with Coach Campbell and Coach Veidt."

A three-star recruit that's ranked as the 15th overall player in the state of Ohio and 12th dual threat quarterback nationally, Armstrong says the coaches in Ames like everything he brings to the table.

"They like my feet," he said. "I'm able to get out of the pocket and make plays out of something that might not be there. They like my playmaking ability. My work ethic and attitude towards everything also appeals to them. They like how I handle myself, how I do things and how everything's been going."

In addition to I-State, Armstrong has offers from Virginia, North Carolina, Toledo, Ohio and Kent State.
