In need of some immediate help for the secondary in the Class of 2017, Iowa State has identified a select number of JUCO prospects that fit the bill. One of those is a cornerback from a Kansas program.
Butler County freshman Octavious Morgan said he’s heard a lot from the Cyclones since receiving an offer from them.
“Coach (D.K.) McDonald and Coach (Alex) Golesh have both come by my school during spring evaluations,” said Morgan, who also has Power-5 offers from the likes of Kansas State, Arkansas, West Virginia, Texas Tech, Baylor, Arizona State.
“They told me I’m one of their top prospects and need me. Coach McDonald likes me a lot and we’ve built a really good relationship. He likes how I play press man, how I move around on the football field, my aggressiveness and how physical I am, as well as how I play the ball. He believes I could play a big-time role.”
Morgan said he likes many facets of I-State, especially the tight-knit nature of it.
“They’ve been showing me a lot of love and I like what they have going there with the program,” he said. “I like how they build it up as a family and brotherhood. I’ve done a lot of research on Iowa State and really like it a lot.”
While he already thinks highly of the Cyclones, the 6-foot-0, 200-pound defender says he needs to see the place for himself before placing them any higher. He hopes to do that at some point this summer.
“They’re definitely in my list (of top schools), but I haven’t been up there yet and want to take a visit before I make a decision,” Morgan said. “I might set an unofficial visit up there in the summer in late June or early July. I’d like to make a decision before the season starts to get it out of the way.”
Morgan is on pace to graduate in December and would have two seasons of eligibility to exhaust over two years. He came to Butler County out of Greenwood High School in South Carolina.
