Iowa State has made it a priority to secure the younger brother of a recruit it just signed in the Class of 2016, getting a spring-game visit out of the high school junior last month and attempting to land the recruit for additional trips.

Cincinnati Colerain three-star defensive back Keontae Jones is already very familiar with the Cyclones from his older brother Deshaunte inking with the program in February. I-State has made no secret of its desire to secure Keontae in the Class of 2017.

“They came in last weekend just telling me about how great Iowa State is and how they’d really like to get me on campus again,” said Jones. “I hear from most of the coaching staff. They’re telling me it’s a good program and they’re going to have good guys coming in to try to win a Big 12 championship.”

The 6-foot-0, 170-pound Jones said he is probably the closest to the Cyclones’ staff than he is with others.

“The relationship between me and the coaches is really good,” he said. “I have good relationships with other schools, but Iowa State’s is probably the best. I hear from them a lot and they’re recruiting me very hard.”

In addition to ISU, Jones has Power-5 offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisville, Maryland, Purdue, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Jones has taken unofficial visits to various campuses on his list during the spring, and says he would like to make it to Ames at least once more during the summer months.

“I’ll probably be out there again when my brother gets dropped off (around the second week in June),” Jones said. “I’ve seen most of the facilities when I went out there for the spring game, so I’ll probably just be looking at the same stuff. I’ll probably be out there for a couple of days and then try to get back out there for another visit on June 24th or 28th.”

Jones says he is in no hurry to make a decision and is “just enjoying the process.”
